  Stolfe's Portside Percussion Studio offers students the opportunity to learn about and experience the fascinating world of drumming and the percussive arts. I teach all areas of drumming and percussion in a fully-equipped studio utilizing the most up-to-date, modern techniques. As a lifelong student myself, I continue to integrate the traditional methods I learned with today's most popular practices. Both individual instruction and ensemble opportunities are available.

  get to know john stolfe

  As an active music educator & instructor, John has operated an independent private percussion studio since September 2005, where he provides private percussion lessons, master classes and group ensemble instruction to over 100 students weekly. Through his private studio, he has coordinated, sponsored and facilitated various workshops with industry performing artists and leading educators in the field of percussion education including, Ruben Alvarez, Steve Houghton, Dom Famularo, Johnny Rabb, and Jeff Queen. Currently, John is a member of the Vic Firth Education Team and an active member of PAS, MENC, WSMA and IMEA.

Working in school settings since 1995, I am experienced as a drum line coach, percussion ensemble director, and clinician. I have provided educational/consultative services to various grade schools, middle schools and high schools within the S.E. Wisconsin and Northern Illinois areas.

Currently, I am a music educator at the following schools: Antioch Community HS, Greendale High School, Mary Lou Mahone Middle School, Bullen Middle School, McKinley Middle School, and the Living Light School of Worship. Additionally, I work with the Kenosha Unified School District summer band program, one of the largest summer band programs in the state of Wisconsin.

In 2008, I was the percussion caption head for the Greendale High School Panther Marching Band – 2008 Wisconsin AA State Marching Band Champions. Along with the championship came the AA Best Percussion Caption Award and the highest caption score out of 39 bands in the state competition.

As a free-lance performer, I have over 22 years professional performance experience as a percussionist, performing with numerous, jazz, concert, classical, theatrical and liturgical groups throughout Illinois and Wisconsin. I have performed with the Racine Concert Band, the University of Wisconsin – Parkside Concert Band, and have performed numerous music theater productions such as, Westside Story, the Sound of Music, Smokey Joe’s Café, Once upon a Mattress, Cinderella, GI Holiday Jukebox, to name a few.
